88.5 DEGREES YESTERDAY.

CONDITIONS NOW COOLER..

Exceedingly, hot weather conditions were, experienced in Ashburton yesterday, the temperature during the afternoon reaching 88.5 degrees, which is considerably in excess of the previous highest reading this season, 85.5 on December 14 of last year. Thursday was also a very warm day. the maximum temperature being 83.8. ( High temperatures during the last three years have been registered as follow: —On February 3 1939 (91), January 3, 1938 (88.2), February 25, 1938 (88) and November 27, 1937 (87). The minimum temperature yesterday was 51.1 degrees compared with 59 on the previous day. The barometer this morning had risen to 29.85 inches, from 29.76 yesterday. The sky was overcast and the weather cool this morning. There was a slight breeze from the north. At midday tho sun was shining. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. Tho Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued tho following statement regarding the weather:— General situation: A weak disturbance lies across the South Island, but pressure is high and fairly uniform over New Zealand.
