WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.

ACTIVITIES AT HAMPSTEAD. The Noveml>er meeting of the Hampstead Women’s Institute was held in the Memorial Hall. Mrs H. Flatman presided. It was decided to donate 10s to the. Health Camp Committee. A report was given of the final arrangements. for the Drama Circle concert to be held on November 22. Miss R. Robins, A.C.E. tutor, gave an instructive lecture on sandwiches and savouries. Mrs Reese proposed a vote of thanks to the lecturer, and Mrs Flatman, in seconding the motion,' presented Miss Robins with a bouquet and thanked l her for the lectures given this yeay. Musical items were given by Mrs Pile.

Results of competitions were: — Bowl of iris, Mrs W. Thompson 1, Mrs Ford 2, Mrs Norton 3; laundered serviette, Mrs Hunt, jnr. 1, Mrs Childs 2; lady’s spray, Mrs Ford 1, Mrs W. Thompson 2, Mrs J. Thompson 3. The hostesses were: Mesdames Spicer, Speckling, Sutton, Rose and Robb. THE LQWCLIFFE BRANCH. At the November meeting of the Lowcliffe branch of the Women’s Institute Mrs Mcßae presided over a fair attendance. The motto was “Anything worth doing is worth doing well.” It was decided to donate £1 to the Dominion Federation. Mrs H. Price was elected to attend the meeting of the Association for Country Education on December 2. For the Golden Thread, Mrs D. McRae gave a very interesting talk on Poland. It was decided that the children’s party this year take the form of a district picnic at Wairuna. The Institute this year will give a donation of money to the orphanage, instead of the usual jam. The competitions resulted:—Vase of flowers for effect, Miss T. Taif 1, Wfrs Roger 2, Mrs W. 11. Clarke 3; spike, Mrs R. Rogers 1, Mrs R. Hawke 2; cluster, Mrs Rogers. An interesting and instructive address on first aid and home nursing was given by Mrs G. Cocks, who was accorded a vote of thanks by Mrs L. Hawke.
