NINETY-THREE TO-DAY.
MR JOHN KNOX’S BIRTHDAY. ATTENDED SYNOD LAST EVENING. One of the- most interesting personalities at the social function in the Methodist Schoolroom last evening in connection with the'Sb nth Canterbury Synod was Mr John Knox, who to-day celebrated his ninety-third birthday. Reference to the presence of Mr Knox was made- by the Rev. Angus Mcßean, who congratulated him on attaining such a ripe old age and: on the good health that had been given him. Later in the proceedings, the Mayor of Ashburton (Dr. G. I. Mjller) said he was pleased to note the close relationship that existed between the Methodises and the Presbyterians, in that the Methodist Church actually had John Knox at one of its meetings. Mr Knox was horn in County Down in 1846 and came to New Zealand when he was 25 years of age. He came to Ashburton County three years later and has lived in this district since. 'He lives in Park Street, Ashburton, now, etnjoying his retirement.
