FRENCH WAR PLAN
IMPORTANT CONFERENCE HELD. MARSHAL GAME LIN'S TACTICS. EARLY OFFENSIVE LIKELY. (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) PARIS, October 1. Yesterday’s conference attended by M. Daladier and the war chiefs, including General Georges, the /-AssistantChief of the General* Staff, who is in command of the Rhine-Moselle front, is regarded as 1 of great importance. It is believed that military plans for the coming week were laid down, and something positive is expected to result shortly. The question why General Gamelin did not take advantage of Germany’s preoccupation in Poland to launch a great attack in the west is answered by the fact that General Gamelin has taken full advantage in the last few weeks to bring the army to a perfect offensive and defensive position, with everything necessary at its immediate disposal. This has been completed and therefore offensive manoeuvres are now very likely.
