CALLED OFF

HUNTLY MINERS' STRIKE. NO COMMENT ON EITHER SIDE. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAUD, September 3. A notice flashed on the screen at the Town Hall cinema at Hunt-ly last night and later posted on a board in front of flie building announces that all miners concerned in the dispute regarding the dismissal bv the Glen Afton Collieries, Ltd., three weeks a&o, of an elderly employee will resume work to-morrow. The notice further states that the member concerned has been reinstated. The secretary of the Northern Miners’ Union (Mr T. Hall) refused to make any comment. The manager of the Glen Alton collieries (Mr C. M. Richwhite) would not comment on the announcement of the resumption of work. A recommendation that David Webster, whose dismissal was responsible for the stoppage of work at the Glen Afton colliery, be reinstated in his enrployment was made by the committee which investigated the dispute. The committee, over which the Industrial Magistrate (Mr J. A. Gilmour) presided, said that if it were found at any time that Webster was not performing his duties satisfactorily and the Union concerned objected to the termination of his services, then his dismissal should be referred to the District Disputes Committee. It also recommended that such committee should obtain the independent advice of a medical referee. The committee’s decision was unanimous.
