ENGLISH OPEN TOURNAMENT.

In the Open golf championship ai St. Andrew’s 129 players, scoring 156 or less, qualified. D. C. Collins (New Zealand) failed to qualify. Cotton (England) returned 69, equalling the record, and with Lawson Little (United States) aggregates 142. He led the field in the qualifying rounds. Ballieu (Australia) has an aggregate of 146.
The competitors play a round on each course. The 130 players returning the lowest aggregate in the qualifying play go into the championship proper, and play one round on Wednesday and one on Thursday. If there is a tie foi the 130th place, all the ties are eliminated.
After the two rounds, there is a further elimination, only the 40 players with the lowest aggregate for the two rounds competing in the final two rounds. The player with the lowest aggregate over the 72 holes is the winner. The leaders are: —
