INTOXICATED IN CAR.

FOURTEEN DAYS’ IMPRISONMENT

CANCELLATION OF LICENCE

(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day

A plea by the defence that there had been no accident did not avail a defendant, John George Cummings, on a charge of intoxication while in charge of a car. The car was being driven in an erratic manner and was noticed by a traffic officer controlling the race traffic yesterday at Taita, and an arrest followed.

The Magistrate (Mr Goulding), at the hearing of the case at Lower Hutt, said that the vigilance of the officet was probably responsible for there being no accident. The Magistrate imposed a sentence of 14 days’ imprisonment with cancellation of the licence and payment of medical expenses.
