ST. JAMES THEATRE.

Such stage and screen headliners as Allan Jones, Judy Garland, Fanny Brice, Reginald Owen, Billie Burke, Reginald 'Gardiner and Lynne Carver join hands to contribute- a wealth of musical and acting talent to- “Everybody Sing,” showing to-night arid Wednesday, as one of the most original and infectious musicals yet to reach the talking screen. “Everybody iSing” is superlatively equipped with a. wide variety of talent. Allan Jones as the chef lias a made-to-order role and lends his superb voice to such songs as the “Quartette-from. Rigoletto,” “On With, the Show,” “Cosi -C'osa” and “The One I love.” The remarkable actress, Judy Garland, playing the “swing-struck” daughter of the family sings “Swing Air Alendlesson,” “Down on Alelody Farm,” “Sweet Chariot,” and “I Wanna. Sing.” Then there is the inimitable Fanny Brice as the maid, with a number all her own entitled, “Quaintv, Dainty Ale.” Only Fanny Brice could sing this and -it is one of the highlights of a musical mirthfeast. Reginald Owen and Billie Burke are irresistible as the theatrical husband and wife, while other outstanding performances are contributed by Reginald Gardiner and Lynne Carver.

An entertaining and interesting bracket' of featurettes include the latest news of world events, a Fitzpatrick travelogue “Beautiful Budapest” with glorious glimpses of the capital of Hungary, while another of the popular “Crime Does Not Pay” deals with adolescent crime showing parental neglect is the major factor, the whole combining to give an excellent evening’s enjoyment.

CARD EVENING AT HAMPSTEAD.

There was a record attendance at the weekly card evening, conducted by the Women’s branch, Hampstead Labour Party. The winners were Mesdames White, Wallis and Gall, and Messrs A. W. Stills, F. Hands and F. Harrison.

HSGHBANK EUCHRE TOURNAMENT.

A very successful progressive euchre tournament was held in the Highbank schoolroom on Saturday in aid of the school funds. There was a. large attendance), including a. number of visitors from Methven. The prizes were won by Mrs J. W. Thomas 1, and Mrs E .J. Blackwell 2, and Mr Adam Paul 1 and Mr John Bouse 2. Consolation prizes were won hv Mrs T. W. Clceve and Mr G. Anderson. At the conclusion .of the games a. dance was held, music being played by Mrs M. Lawrence.
