NEW ZEALAND v. CAHN’S TEAM. A SPORTING DECLARATION. WELLINGTON, March 13. Five thousand spectators at the Basin Reserve to-day enjoyed a day’s exciting cricket in the match between Sir Julien Calm’s team and New Zealand. Thanks to bright batting by the colt, Ongley, and resolute knocks by Wallace and Carson, both of whom were undefeated, Moloney (captain of tue New Zealand side) was able to make a sporting declaration, closing the innings at 2.50 p.m. J. E. Walsh, the Australian, was the best of the visiting 'bowlers, taking four wickets for 67 runs off 20 overs with his slow leg-breaks. When stumps were drawn at 6 o’clock Sir Julien Calm’s team was still seven runs short

of the New Zealand total. The hoard then showed 103 for the loss of seven wickets. A good stand by Oldfield and Watts, who added 63 for the sixth wicket, nearly gave the visitors a victory. The race for runs by the visitors was highly enjoyed by the spectators. Interest was sustained right up to the last ball. Scores— NEW ZEALAND.
