' GROUP MEETING HELD. • . Tho special group meeting of Women’s Institutes Avhich was held in Ashburton on Friday aftei’noon Avas very well attended by Avomen from Ashburton, Hampstead, Allentori, Wakanui, Fairton, Tinwald, Willowby-Eiftcl-ton, an cli Ashton-Water-ton. A demonstration Avas given by Miss R. Robins (resident tutor of the Association for Country Education) on preserving. Miss Robins, who Avas assisted by Miss M. Fogo (resident tutor in the North Canterbury district last year), was introduced by Mrs. F. Curtis (chairwoman of the advisory committee). Hints on preserving and drying many kinds of fruit, vegetables, and meat Avere explained, and practical demonstrations in the work, were also given. Last Monday Miss Robins and Miss Fogo gave similar demonstrations at Rakaia, and on Thursday a Avellattended meeting Avas held at Hinds. The resident tutor Avill begin her regular programme of visits to organisations in the Ashburton County next week. Provision has been made for addresses, lecture-demonstrations, and classes.
