SPORTS IN ASHBURTON.
ATTRACTIONS FOR TO-MORROW.
TWO SWIMMING CARNIVALS
Although swimming activities have been in full swing in Ashburton for the last week or two, no clubs have yet formally opened their seasons, the proposed carnival at East Ashburton having been postponed because of . the unfavourable weather. To-morrow, however, if conditions are propitious, two clubs— the- Ashburton and Allenton — will hold their first-of-the-season carnivals. The function at Allenton will be in the afternoon, while the Ashburton Club has arranged an attractive programme lor the evening. Many swimmers will take part in the events and there is little doubt that the sport, always popular in the summer season, will be well patronised by the public. The postponed carnival at East Ashburton will probably be held on Wednesday evening.,
The Town v. Country bowling contest is a. popular fixture, and some good matches will be played in Ashburton to-morrow. Aulsebrooks (Christchurch), Southbridge and Elmwood are sending rinks to Allenton, and Canterbury, Sunnyside and Shirley are sending rinks to play the Ashburton Club. Rakaia will be visited by Canterbury and St. Albans rinks, while four rinks from Imperial will travel to Methven.
The Cricket Association’s competitions 'will be continued, the Technical v. Ashburton match, on the Oval, and the Kia Ora y. Old Boys match, on the Kia Ora ground being the two senior fixtures to be played in town. Fairfield will play Public Works at Winchmore. The final matches in the first round of the Mid-Canterbury Lawn .Tennis Sub-Association’s competitions will be concluded.
Friendly croquet matches will be played on lawns in Ashburton, while a team from the Ashburton Club will travel to Timaru.
