ACTIVITIES IN ASHBURTON. »

THE ELECTION OF OFFICERS. With the financial statement showing a credit balance of £B4 and with £2OO on fixed deposit, the past year’s activities of the Ashburton County Scottish Society were highly successful, stated the report presented at the annual meeting last evening. Chief E. G. Craighead presided. The report, which gave a comprehensive review of the year’s work, stated that dances were held regularly on Saturday evenings, the proceeds on alternate Saturdays being given to assist the fund for now uniforms for the Ashburton County Scottish Pipe Band. There was a. full attendance at practically every dance. A sum of £lO7 was given to the band. The council of the society attended Divine service on the Burns Anniversary, but the St. Andrew’s Day parade had to he abandoned. The annual ball was not held this year. Beginning in April five monthly Inglesides were successfully organised, and an additional Inglcside in September was conducted for the Pipe Band’s uniform fund. Thanks were extended to all who had assisted in any way during the year. The Hallowe’en party was enjoyed by a large attendance of children.

Tait, and Pipers H. Montgomery and G. Robertson; accompanists, Mrs H. J. Chapman and Miss O. Watts; honorary secretary, Mr J. Turnbull; treasurer, Mr J. H. W. Bruce; auditor, Mr N. L. F.

Wood; local consul, Mr E. Lithgow; delegates to the North Canterbury Piping and Dancing Association, Messrs Montgomery and Bruce.
