TOWN PLANNING.

HONOUR FOR THE ORIGINATOR. (United Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, November 24. Sir Raymond Unwin, pioneer of town planning, was presented with an Ebenezer Howard Memorial Medal. The Minister for Health (Mr Walter Elliot), in a speech at the function, said that one of the most striking Avays planned growth of towns had reacted on the lives of the people was exemplified in transport delays. Motor transport, instead of speeding up, had slowed down traffic, and it was now often quicker to walk. The horse omnibus in 1914 carried its passengers between Oxford Circus and Swiss Cottage more quickly than the motor-bus did to-day.

Sir Raymond, replying, emphasised that the true purpose of planning was not restrictive. Its aim was to afford greater and wider opportunities for right location of human activity.—British Official Wireless.
