AUCKLAND SEASON OPENS. A GOOD START RECORDED. SLIGHTLY ABOVE LAST YEAR, Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The wool sale opened, Avith a. catalogue of over 24,000 bales, to a bench of 70 buyers. The bulk of the bidding Avas confined to about a dozen frontbenchers, Avho buy for Bradford and the Continent, Avith occasional orders for America.

The avool consisted chiefly of hoggets Avethers and dry ewes.

The sale made a good start, and competition Avas keen at values that seemed slightly above those ruling for the corresponding sale last year. Fleece avools. Avero averaging about 9.kl to lOjd per lb, and the first catalogue Avas promptly disposed of with very Icav passings. Fine wools were relatively in less demand and the top price for the first catalogue Avas 15d, a figure that may be exceeded later Avhen some of the Wa ill eke clips are offered. The sale proceeded as it had begun, and after three catalogues had been disposed of it became apparent that a clearance of about 95 per cent. Avas being effected at an average advance of about a halfpenny to one penny on the last NoA r ember sale in Auckland. Farmers and brokers generally appeared to be avcll satisfied Avitli the results of the auction.

MERINOS IN KEEN DEMAND. (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON, November 25. At the fered, including 1584 New Zealand, and 6180 AA-ere sold. There Avas a. good selection, chiefly Merinos, Avhich met keen demand. Slipes sold at recent levels but greasy crossbreds Avere often in buyers’ favour.
