The Assistant-Minister for Territories (Mr Harrison) announced in the House of Representatives that the Federal Government had decided to investigate the proposal that the territories of New Guinea and Papua should be administered from one capital, located in
Papua. Mr Harrison also stated that Cabinet had decided that Salamaua, the site originally chosen for the new capital of New Guinea, would be the temporary capital.
