THE REMNANT OF RUTHENIA.

The “Evening Standard” says that Poland, in conjunction with Hungary, is planning to seize the remnant ot Ruthenia. She has massed seven divisions on the Ruthenian border, with 40,000 more Polish troops on the Rumanian frontier, to prevent Rumania assisting Czechoslovakia. Germany, which hitherto has opposed the plan, has informed Budapest and Warsaw that her objections will he withdrawn if in the first place Danzig is freed from control by the League ol Nations, becoming in effect a German city ; secondly, Germans are granted concessions to build railway and tiunk road to Rumanian frontier. Rumania, anxious to preserve the boundaries fixed at Munich, has warned Britain and France of the plan. The situation is being discussed by the Ministers’ Conference at Paris.. Meanwhile . conditions in Ruthenia are reported to be chaotic, owing to the activities of bands of Hungarian and Polish irregulars.
