RUTHERFORD OF NELSON.

Sir, —In view of the fact that the late Lord Rutherford is acclaimed by the majority of scientific thinkers in Britain, Europe and the United States as the greatest scientific investigator and discoverer since Newton, it will be conceded that he is easily the most, distinguished man to whom New Zealand lias yet given birth. It is now over twelve months since his death, and so far as one can ascertain there is no national movement (beyond the suggestion put forward by the Physical and Mental Welfare Society) to establish a lasting memorial in his honour. I therefore ask for fuller publicity to be given to tne P.M.W. Society’s proposal, made at the time of his death, that a memorial fund be raised for the perpetual endowment. of a scheme to furnish scientific truths and scientific views direct to the ordinary man and woman through their most popular medium ol gaining current information, i.e., the Press; such knowledge and such views to be supplied by a non-political and non-sectarian committee of scientists and other qualified men and women. E. M* MILLER. Ponsonbv, Auckland.
