WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.
STAVELEY BIRTHDAY PARTY The seventh birthday party "of the Stav-eley Women’s Institute took the form of a social afternoon, held in the Stav’eley Mall. Mrs Pawsey (president) Welcomed a. large audience of members, .friends, and visitors. Items were given by the Springburn School children, a duet by blisses Smith, and Norman, and verse speaking under the direction of Mrs Norfna;n. Competitions were won by Mesdames TJsmar, Ogg, and "Ruddock, Misses D'oreen Wright, June Ogg, 0. Austin and Master Aldridge.
The birthday cake, which was given by Mrs Cannon, was cut by Mrs Hicks.
Mesdames Wright and Durian won the cups and the- accompanying gifts for the highest aggregate points in arts and crafts and flowers respectively. The runmars-up for the arts and crafts prize were Mesdames S. Goldsmith and Pawsey, and for flowers Mesdames Wright and Button, who also received prizes. Miss E. John- - ston’s special prize to competitor having most entry points and not winning a prize, was won by Mrs Ogg. Birthday greetings were received from delegates representing the MidCanterbury Federation Mount Somers Mayfield, Methven Institutes and Anama Women’s Division.
THE WAKANUI INSTITUTE.. The retention of the services of Miss Bay Bobins, resident tutor for the Association of Country) Education, to give instruction to women’s organisations, was favoured by the Wakanui Women’s Institute at its monthly meeting. The president (Mys C. Brand) presided. The president reported on the halfyearly meeting of the council of the Mid-Canterbury Federation held at Methven recently, and Mrs T. S. Taylor spolie on the remits presented at the Dominion conference. It was decided to send Christinas cards prepared by tine Dominion executive to the institutes link, at Cufl'Jy, England. - ;* Cent petitions resulted as follows: Seniors, bloom, Mrs H. Watson 1, Mrs A Ford 2, Miss E. Protheroe and Mrs T. S'. Taylor (equal) 3. Sultana cake, Miss Protheroe 1, Mesdames Watson and tford (equal) 2. Floating howl, Miss Prothieroe 1, Mrs Frampt-on 2, Mrs Ford 3. Juniors, bloom, Miss E. Eden 1, Misses M. Wilson and C. Frampton (equal) 2. Sultana cake, Miss Wilson 1, Miss Eden 2. Floating bowl, 'Miss "Frampton 1, Miss Wibon 2. " " Misses -E.- Edeir a nd~fh Da 1 ton were hostesses.
