ST. JAMES THEATRE. “The Rage of Paris,' ,f the gay comedy starring the French star Danielle Darrieux, will conclude its season at the St. James Theatre this evening. “The gayest and most enjoyable picture I ever worked on in my life!” That is the way Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., sums up his experience in co-star-ring with Danielle Darrieux, in this film. Misclia Auer, Helen Broderick and Louis Hayward head the brilliant cast supporting the two stars. The world’s mpst famous night club is brought to the screen for the first time in Paramount’s “Cocoa-nut Grove,” which will commence a twoday engagement to-morrow. The cast is headed by Fred MacMarray and Harriet Hilliard, aided and abetted, by the antics of the Yacht Club Boys, Ben Blue, Rufe Davis and Harry Owens and his Royal Hawaiian Orchestra. The story concerns itself with a swing band ancLife hilarious trials and tribulations in getting across the continent to an audition at the famed Cocoa-nut Grove in the Hotel Ambassador in Los Angeles; It’s in “Cocoanut Grove” that you hear the tune everybody is singing, “Fall in Love, Fall in Love, Says My Heart,” played with the irresistible swing that made it the world’s modern hit.

SOLDIERS’ CONCERT AT RAKAIA. A successful annual concert, organised by the Rakaia branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and given by the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association’s concert party, was well attended in the town Hall. The accompanist was Miss Lilian Harper, and,Mr A. L. Emerson was the' stage manager.

Mr V. Wilkinson (president of the Rakaia branch) thanked 1 the audience for their attendance and the performers for their enjoyable programme. Mr A. L. Emerson in replying, introduced Mr D. W. Russell (vice-president of the Christchurch executive of the Returned Soldiers Association) who appealed for support for the Association, in the annual Poppy Day appeal. The programme included items by Miss Waveney Bowbyes, songs; Miss Mollie Hatherley, songs; Miss June Claydon, violin solos; Miss Jean Heath,, impersonations; Mr Percy Caithness, songs; Mr Jock Lockhart, humorous interludes; Mr Thorpe Cherry; songs, Mr A. T. Zeigler, song; Mr Frank Hutton, conjuring. Bouxjuiets were presented to the women of the concert p#rty. After the concert the performers were the guests of the Rakaia branch at supper, when a toast list was honoured. SCOTTISH SOCIETY DANCE. The Ashburton County Scottish Sosiety’? dance on Saturday evening again attracted a largo attendance. Cook’s orchestra supplied the music. Mxmte Carlo dances were won by Miss D. McGregor and Mr A. Kelly, * Miss B. Freeman and Mr G. Calder. Flxtras were played, by Mrs T. McGregor, Messrs Geo. Chilton, A. Dolphin, and R. Williamson. Messrs T. McGregor and l G. C'bilton were M.G’s.
