FRENCH ARMY DOG

SOLDIERS’ “POSTMAN.” * DEATH IN ALPINE FORT. PARIS, October 20. One of the world’s most famous animals, the French army clog Flambeau, died yesterday at Solieres Fort, near Grenoble. The fort is in the Alps, at a 'height of 9000 ft. For eight years, Flambeau carried up the Chasseurs’ mail and was often the only winter-time link with'tile fort. He was “retired”, in 1937 because of age. Yesterday he apparently sensed the approach of death, and made for i the fort of his own volition. He died soon after arrival.
