TRAP SHOOTING.

THE METHVEN GUN CLUB. FINAL MATCHES OF SEASON Tho Methven Gun Club completed its season in fine but somewhat windy weather. There was a large attendance of shooters and spectators. In addition to the ordinary matches the annual competition between tae club and the Methven Miniature Rifle Club for the D.O.L. Challenge Shield was concluded. The match was opened on the rifle range the evening before and, was concluded over two traps. In the total points oyer tine two series tne rifle club won by 22 points. The annual lades’ day match was also held. This 'was a popular event. Combined with the set programme, the finals for the season aggregate and the trophies, given by the president (Mr A. McLeod), which were also concluded. ‘Both these showed a smail margin of points and required shootsoff to decide.

The aggregate for the season was won by W. M 7 Holland with T. S. Harrison runner-up. There were four ties for the president’s aggregate, and this was finally won by L. C. Anderson with J. T. Corbitt runner-up. For the best aggregate over the series of shoots for the day, G. H. Anderson was the finalist in a shoot-off a:nd won the trophy presented by Mr E. Hammond (Christchurch). At the conclusion of the shoot, the president presented trophies won by competitors, and congratulated them on their success. Details of the various shoots were as follows: — Six Clay Bird Sweepstake—A. McLeod, T. S. Harrison, ID'. S. Dorreen, D. Harrison, and H. T. Stephens each broke the possible and divided the stake.

Ladies’ Match (12 clay birds) —J. T. Corbitt 12, E. J. Watson 11, D. Har/rison 11, G. H. Anderson 11, A. McLeod 10, T. S. Harrison 10, 31. L. Haskett 10, J. Manning 10 had the best scores. Corbitt with the possible, secured the first trophy and two guineas. Watson, 3>. Harrison and G. H. Anderson with 11 breaks, secured a guinea trophy each, and for th|e two remaining trophies of one guinea, out of those with 10 breaks, .T. Manning and T. G. Ha/rrison were successful.

President’s Trophy, final shoot (14 birds) —D. S. Dorreen, R. L. Haskett and G. H. Anderson, with the possible, divided the sweepstake. McLeod L. C. Anderson, Corbitt, Holland, and T. S. Harrison, each with 13 breaks, were the next in order. Corbitt ana L. C. Anderson,. each with a total of 67 points over the series, shot off, ana the first trophy was'won by Anderson Corbitt taking second prize. Inter-Club Shoot. Rifle Range Match—Gun Club (L. 0. Anderson 70, T. 8. Harrison 63, A. McLeod 58, G. H. Anderson 38, E. J. Watson 70, T. Richards 72, S. Smith 74, D. Waddington 72), total 517; Rifle Club (J. Manning 64, J. Rowe 75, A. Cookslcy 74, W. Lumsden 'rd, T. Middleton 76, R. L. Haskett 78, M. Holland 80, J. E. Carr 80), total 602.

Clay Traps—Gun Club (McLeod 20, L. C. Anderson 18, Corbitt 21, D. Harrison 22, E. J. Watson 10, T. G. Harrison 24, G. H. Anderson 22) total 137 points, plus 28 handicap, 165; Rifle Club (W. Lumsden 10, J. Rouse 18, J. Manning 8, A. Cooksley 15, R. L. Haskett 15, W. M. Holland 19, T. Middleton, 17), total 102. Grand Totals —Gun Club 682, Rifle Club 704. The Rifle dub again won the challenge shield.
