CHANGES IN HIGH COMMAND. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.10 a.m.) BERLIN, October 31. The retirement of General Beck, Chief of the German General Staff, and General von Rundstedt, Commander-in-Chief of the Ist Army Corps, is officially announced. Herr Hitler has sent a letter to General Beck saying that the high standard of the Army was largely due to him.

It is recalled that General Beck’s resignation was rumoured during the re«ent crisis when it was believed that e opposed the plan for the military occupation of Czechoslovakia. This rumour was later officially denied. General Haider will succeed General Beck, while General von Bock will succeed General von Rundstedt. General Keitel, chief of the Supreme Command, has been promoted ColonelGeneral rank, next to Field-Marshal.
