LODGE MEETING.

THE ASHBURTON DRUIDS. The fortnightly meeting of the Star of Ashburton Lodge, U.A.0.D., was held, last evening, Bro. D.J. Gibson presiding. There was a large attendance, including Bro. R. T. Latimer, ID.P. and Sisters of the Success Lodge. An official visit was paid by the following representatives from Grand Lodge:—Pjros. It. J. Roberts, G.P., R. C. Robinson, G.V.P., and F. E. Talbot, Grand Secretary. Motions of sympathy with the relatives of the late Bro. C. Fletcher and Bro. W. H. Keith in their recent, oereavements were carried in silence. Bro. O’jC'onnor reported on sick members, and sick pay was passed in favour of 21 members. The Grand Lodge officers addressed the Lodge on several matters of interest to the Order, thle G.P speaking mainly on the provisions of the Social Security Act, pointing out that it was still advantageous for members to retain their membership, as the benefits they would receive from the Lodge would not interfere with their claims under the Social Security Act. This was borne out by the Lodge still making members, although the new Act had been passed. Bro. Robinson spoke chiefly on the work of the R.A. Chapters, and strongly urged all P.A. officers to maintain their interest in the Order by taking an active part in the Chapter.

The Grand Secretary .stated, that, although the report on the last quinquennial valuation was not yet to hand, an interim report which he had received from the Government Actuary showed that the Order had made wonderful progress in Canterbury during this period. As a result, it was anticipated that an increase would be made in the funeral allowances and the age at which superannuation benefits could be obtained, he lowered lv y another five years.

Several questions were answered, and on the motion of LDI.P. Bro. R. T. Latimer, seconded by IP.G.P. Bro. F. H. Steel, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the visitors. At the close of thie Lodge refreshments were handed round.
