CONDITIONS RATHER CHANGEABLE. 4! After 12£ points of rain on Saturday night, the weather in Ashburton cleared and a fine, cloudless, day was enjoyed yesterday. Conditions were not as favourable to-day, for the sky was overcast and little was seen of the sun. The maximum temperature on Saturday was 64 degrees, compared with 60.8 degrees y/esterday. The minimums were 41.-5 degrees and 37 degrees respectively. With the wind from the north-east, the barometer stood at 29.84 inches. The reading yesterday was 29.96 inches.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather An anti-cycTone of considerable intensity is centred to the north, while a depression covers the wiestern Tasman Sea and is moving eastward. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows:

North-easterly at- first along the coast, otherwise moderate but freshening winds. Waether cloudy, mild and hazy. Seas slight, but rising north f Kaikoura.
