AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE.
NO UNIVERSAL TRAINING. RECRUITING CAMPAIGN PLAN. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day.
The Melbourne correspondent of “The Sydney Morning Herald’’ says that the Federal Ministry will not attempt to introduce universal training for at least a year, unless there is a collapse of the present system of voluntary enlistment. ’ln the meantime Federal Ministrs support a vigorous campaign of recruiting for the militia. The Federal Cabinet reached these decisions after Ministers had heard Mr Lyons and Mr Thorby (Minister of Defence) on the subject. The “Herald’s” correspondent at Canberra says consideration is being given by the Government to the establishment of a national defence register. Under it every able-bodied Australian Avould be registered and assigned to special defence duties in preparation for an emergency.
