INTRUDER CAUGHT.

POLICE RAID ON BUILDING. (Per Press Association.) ' DUNEDIN, October 28. Two car-loads of detectives, some of them armed, made a raid on the premises of Wilson, Balk, and Company, Ltd., merchants, early this evening and captured a man in the yard at the back of the building. He was promptly arrested and will appear before the Magistrate’s Court to-morrow morning. The raid, which was carried out by five detectives and two constables in plain clothes from the central police station, was made at 8.15 p.m. The party, led by Detective-Sergeant T. Y. Hall, went to the premises in Jetty street in two cars, and quickly surrounded the building. Detectives Gibson and Drown, and Acting-Detective McDouga 11 gained entry into the piemises at the front..

Evidently disturbed by the noise, the intruder, who had a- handkerchief o\ci the lower part of his face, ran out through the back into the yard and endeavoured- to escape over the high gate, the top of which was covered with barbed wire. He was called on to halt by Detective-Sergeant Taylor, who was stationed outside the gate, and Detective Gibson, following closely behind the man, promptly arrested him. He was put into one of the cars and taken to the central police station. The raid was efficiently carried out, the whole incident being over in a few iiiinulcs.
