Mr W. Thomson (editor of “The Zealander” is in Ashburton, and will remain for some days. He is a guest at the Grand Central Hotel.

Mr W. Wilmott, of JTimaru, who was recently admitted ‘into the As'iibuyton Public Hospital after receiving furious injuries in an accident in the Waimate to Christchurch road cycling race, was reported to-day to be making satisfactory progress toward recoverv.

The Rev. Lawrence A. North, formerly minister of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church, Christchurch, was elected general secretary of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, and treasurer of the Baptist Missionary Society at the New Zealand Baptist Assembly, now meeting in Wellington. He will succeed the Rev. M. AY. P. Laseelles, who has announced his intention to retire, after occupying the office for 16 years.

Mr E. P. V. Sealy, who has been manager of the Wanganui branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., for the past 10 years, will retire on superannuation at the end of this year, after completing approximately 42 years of service. Mr Sealy commenced his service with the Bank at Timaru, and was manager there prior to his transfer to Wanganui. He was first manager of the Ashburton branch established toward the end of 1924, and left this town in 1927.
