PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ MATCHES

FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL. Sevon-a««side football and basketball matches were played in the Ashburton Domain yesterday by teams taking part in the Ashburton County Schools Sports’ Association, tournament . FOOTBALL. A total of 48 primary school football teams took part in the Rugby football tournament. Fast, open foot ball was seen in all grades. A well-matched combination, Borough A. wen the town senior ■ grade. The winning team was A. Clarke, ,/P. Anderson, JL. Miles, E. Stills, N. Coldicott, R. Holloway, and R. Thomas. Allenton won the town junior grade The team comprised L. Grant, A. Sparrow, F. Hill, W. Tonks, G. (Plunkett*, D. Gourdie, R. Robinson, The Borough School team, which, won the town midget section, was one of the fastest to compete at Ashburton for many years, and completely outwitted its opponents. The team was M. A particularly good type of football was seen in the country senior competition, which was won by Lyndhurst, represented by C. Body, J. Dwyer, J. Mangin, J. Ayers, W. Thompson, W. Bland, and N. Keen competition and a good standard of play were seen throughout the annual seveu-a-side tournament conducted by the basketball section of the Ashburton County Schools’ Sports Association at the Ashburton Domain yesterday afternoon. A total of 22 town teams, 12 in the senior grade and 10 in the junior, and 12 teams in open ' country section, took part. Methven, entering a strong team, won the town senior grade, and Tinwald the town junior grade.
