TRIPOD HOOKS
USE ON SILVERY TACKLE. CONFERENCE TO BE GALLED. The monthly meeting of the Council of the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society was held last evening, when there were present Messrs A. J. Millicharop, J. Donn, A. O. Pilbrow, G. Coe, A. Cates, N. Milner, and G. Kelly. Mr Millichamp was elected chairman for the ensuing year. Iho recommendation from the annual meeting that the use of tripod hooks on silvery tackle be permitted, was considered and it was decided to call a c-on-ference of representatives from the North Canterbury, South Canterbury, and Waimate Societies, to discuss local fishing regulations in an endeavour to obtain some uniformity especially regarding boundary rivers.
The Department of Internal Affairs advised that a grant of £5 16s from lastyear’s opossum revenue was being male to the Society.
In recognition of his services, especially in connection with the hatchery, it was decided to grant the ranger a bonus of £lO.
The suggestion made at the annual meeting that salmon fishing after March 31 be again permitted above the gorge bridge in the Rakaia River, and R-awles Creek in the Rangitata- was discussed, and it was decided to bring this matter forward for consideration at the proposed conference of neighbouring societies. The following ground committees were appointed: Hakatere, Messrs *A. Cates, G. Kelly, A. O. Pilbrow, and N. Milner; Rakaia, Messrs D. Lynch, A. Cates and A. O. Pilbrow; Rangitata, Messrs A. J. Millichamp, G. Coe and J. Donn.
