THE WEATHER.

FIVE DEGREES OF FROST TO-DAY A frost of five' degrees was experienced in Ashburton this morning. The dark clouds that spread across the sky early in the morning dispersed later, and at mid-day bright sunshine prevailed. The maximum temperature yesterday was 59.2 degrees and in the coldest spell last night the thermometer reading dropped to 32.6 degrees. The barometer stood at 29.55 inches this morning. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: Pressure is relatively low over the Dominion. A slight disturbance crossed the Auckland Province last night, and a series of shallow westerly depressions continues to pass in the south. The forecast for the east coast of the .South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows : Light to moderate northerly winds prevailing, but backing at times to westerly or south-westerly. Scattered rain probable in the ranges, but weather for the most part fair to cloudy, with moderate temperatures. Sea slight to moderate.
