GIRL STOWAWAY.
WANTED TO SEE THE WORLD. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 30. A 16-yea.r-old Australian girl was taken in charge by the police when the Matson liner Monterey arrived at Auckland from Sydney. The girl was found mingling with the passengers after the ship left Sydney on Friday, and said bn arrival to-day that she had wanted to see the world and so had run away from home. For the rest of the voyage to Auckland the girl was not placed in the ship’s brig, hut was allowed the use of an empty inside stateroom.
At Auckland she was taken before the .Children’s Court, presided over byMr AV. R. McKean, S.M., who ordered her to be returned to her home by the Mariposa leaving Auckland on June 10.
