WORLD AUTHORITY ON CERAMICS STARTED AS BOOT CLICKER. CJPer Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day. Private advice received here reports the death of Dr. Joseph \\ illiam Mellor, aged 68. Originally a boot clicker in Sargood’s Dunedin factory, lie won renown in Britain’s chemical wqrld, becoming a, world authority on ceramics. While following his humble occupation lie studied chemistry at the University under the late Professor Black and won an exhibition scholarship, which enabled him to go to England. He applied his knowledge to the potterv industry, becoming consulting chemist to loading firms. Ho retired three Years ago. Dr. "Mellor was the author of a monumental work of 1C volumes on inorganic theoretical chemistry, and several other works. During the war Dr. Mellows knowledge proved very valuable to Britain, particularly in steel manufacture. For this lu> took neither pecuniary nor titular reward. Dr. Mellor is survived by Ins wne. whom he married the year he left Dunedin.
