AN ILLICIT STILL.
FINE OF £SO IMPOSED. ITINERANT HAWKER’S OFFENCE. (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, This Day. An itinerant hawker, "William David Wilson, was fined £SO by Mr Salmon, S.H., for, at Upokongaro, between March 2 and 23, having in his possession an apparatus or utensils intended for, or suitable for, distilling or compounding spirits, not having first obtained a licence for the same. Charges of unlawfully making and deriving profit from spirits on which duty had not been paid were withdrawn. A still and a small quantity of spirits were exhibited in court.
An analysis showed 135 proof spirit. Defendant, in a letter, stated that lie was only experimenting with the still, and had no intention of selling liquor. The apparatus was only a small one.
