ST. JAMES THEATRE. All the beauty, colour, and swashbuckling adventure of the famous Anthony Hope romance comes to the screen in David O. Selznick’s magnificent film production of “The Prisoner of Zenda,” with Ronald Colman, Madeleine Carroll and Douglas Fairbanks, jun., playing the leading roles. This fine drama Avill be shown at the St. James Theatre this evening, to-morrow night, and again on Wednesday, Avith a matinee to-morrow. Colman plays the dual role of King Rudolph V, and the adventurous Rassendyll in this talc of love and intrigue among the courts of Europe, Avhieli John Cromwell directed from a screen play Avhich John L. Balder ston and Wells Root based on EdAvard Rose’s ■aramatisation of tlio Anthony Hope novel. Miss Carroll plays the beautiful Princess Fa via and young Fairbanks is seen as tlio dashing Rupert of Hentzau. Also prominently featured in the cast are Mary Astor, C. Aubrey Smith, Raymond Massey and David Niven.

The supporting programme includes “Happy Days (cartoon) and the latest news-reels.

SCOTTISH SOCIETY’S DANCE. There was a large attendance at the Ashburton Scottish Society’s dance on Saturday evening. The Monte Carlo wns won by Miss M. Simon and Mr R. Williamson. Extras were played hv Mrs McGregor and Misses G. Chilton, L. Dolphin and R. Williamson, while Cook’s orchestra supplied the dance music. The M.C.’s were Messrs S. McGregor and G. Chilton.
