HITLER AND! ARMY GENERALS. critical conflict of view. LONDON, Jan, 2. A crisis is developing between the Army Generals and Hitler, reports the Berlin correspondent of the “Sunday Referee.” The generals contend that the rigorous Four-Year Plan of economic self-sufficiency is starving the people. The Army’s view is put by General von Metzsch, formerly Inspector-Gen-eral df the Reiclnvehr, in a pamphlet authorised by the General 'Staff. “I am not convinced of the stability of the present regime, nor of the support it will find among the masses in case of war,” he writes. ' “Hunger can frustrate victory, and even to-day economic defeat is possible.” General von Marx > formerly Inspec-tor-General of Artillery, gives a. similar warning in the Reichswehr journal “Militaer Wochenblatt.”
“The quality of bread is worse than before the war,’’ he says. “There is an intermittent and alarming shortage of meat, : butter and eggs.”
In the meantime the anti-Nazi congress, after a- two-days’ secret meeting in Berlin, has planned opposition to Hitler.
