BIRTHS INCREASE.
SMALL ADVANCE IN BRITAIN. U CRUDE DEATH-RATE RISES. (United Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, January 19. The rise iit the British birth-rate continued last year according to returns furnished by the Registrar-General. The birth-rate in England and Wales* in 1937 is etimated at 14.9 births a 1000 of population. The crude death-rate was 12.4 a 1000, and the deaths of children under one 3’ear a IOOp births were 58. The birth-rate shows an increase of .12 over 1930. but tlie. crude death-rate is- the highest since 19.29, being .3 above that of 1930. The, increase,, is largely associated with the . heavy influenza mortality of the first'quarter of the year. Infant mortality was 1.0 a 1000 below that of 193G,—British Official Wireless.
