VISITING SPORTSMEN.
QUESTION OF ENDORSEMENT FEE / [Ver Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. ' A question debated by delegates at the conferenc'e of South Island Acclimatisation Societies yesterday was whether a travelling sportsman should be obliged to have his licence endorsed on payment of 2s 6d when visiting districts other than the one in which his licence was issued.
The point was raised in a remit from the Lakes District Society asking the South Island conference to support the suggestion of the North Island Council in favour -of the endorsement. Delegates expressed conflicting opinions, but a decision was reached that visitors to the Lakes District should pay an extra fee.
Mr J. McDonald (South Canterbury): We have an influx of holiday visitors from North Canterbury, Otago, and Southland. However, you have just had the licence fee increased by your Government, Certainly it is' only a small increase, but we must take a broad-minded point of view. We do not mind anglers coming down to us. All we want is a reciprocal agreement. As far as New Zealand is concerned, I think a general licence should cover the issue.
This opinion was supported by Mr H G. Kemp (Ashburton).
