TRINIDAD UNREST.
THE SITUATION NOW CALM. - (United Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, November 25. Answering a question in the House of Lords on the position in Trinidad, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary for the Colonies (the Marquess of Duft’erin and Ava) said the Royal Commission was in the process of writing its report, and the Governor (Sir Murchison Fletcher) had been asked to come to London to confer with the Secretary of State (Mr W. Ormsby Gore) on the recent happenings. Although tension had existed in the island, the Marquis of Dufferin and Ava expressed the view that at the moment the situation was calm. Precautions of a temporary nature had been taken to enable both employers and employees to adjust their relationships in a constitutional manner. With that object the warship York had called at the island, and although she had now left, a company of troops had arrived from Bermuda and had been posted to the oilfields area. Sir Mark Young, Governor of Barbados, had taken over dor the time being the administration of the island, and there were no signs of further disturbances.
The Marquess added that lie hoped the report, would be available some time in the New Year. —British Official Wireless.
