WEAVERS CEASE WORK

TROUBLE AT ONEHUNGA MILLS. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 26. Chiefly because of dissatisfaction at being changed to different looms through the operation of short time, 27 girls employed on piece rates in the weaving department of the Onehunga Woollen Mills failed to resume work to-day after a meeting in the lunch hour, at which it was, decided not to undertake duty until their alleged grievances were rectified. Ignorance of the fact that there had been anything in dispute between the management and the girls of the weaving department was expressed by one of the proprietors of the company. The company had faithfully observed all the conditions of the award, and when the girls walked out they gave no reasons to the management. Although 27 girls only are so far engaged in the dispute, the w r eaving section is the key section of the mills.

The secretary of the union (Mr T. Bills) is out of Auckland for the week-end, but the girls will hold a meeting to-morrow to formulate their demands and hope that a conference will be arranged on Monday between the union and the management.
