DOMINION’S SCENERY.
“NEW ZEALAND RAILWAYS ILLUSTRATED.” “The purpose in publishing this hook is .to snow how closely related are the scenic attractions of New Zealand and the national transport system,” states Mr G. H. Mackley, general manager of the Railways Department, in the introductory pages of “New Zealand Railways Illustrated,” book of 84 pages. With four-colour reproductions of 71 scenic photographs, seven railway subjects and maps of the North and South Islands on high-quality art paper, this book is one of New Zealand’s biggest achievements in colour printing. In tho selection of scenic pictures, justice has been done to the principal tourist localities; the North Island has 34 pages and the South Island 37. There is just enough letterpress to help the pictures to intensify their message. One page gives a concise summary of Now Zealand—-history, geopraphy, population, and other information and another page briefly tells the story of the railways since the first line was opened in 1863.
