TENNIS.
THE HANDICAP TOURNAMENT. Arrangements for the annual handicap tournament of the Mid-Canter-bury Lawn Tennis Sub-Association on December 11 and 18, were made by the council of the sub-association on Wednesday evening, when Mr F. W. Seldon (president) presided. The following tournament officials were appointed:—Tournament committee, Messrs Seldon (convener), N. L. F. Wrjffd, M. R. Pilbrow, S. P. Taylor, L. R. Clarke, and K. G. Fowke; referee, Mr Wood; secretary, Mr Fowke; handicap and draw' committee, Messrs H. H. Hawkins, E. P. Bryant, S. M. Jackman, W. T. Corbett, P. S. Bonifant, and P. M McLauehlan; A grade umpires, Messrs E M. Gabites( convener), A. J. Rawstorne, and Dr. W. R. Ryburn; B grade umpires, Messrs Hawkins (convener), C. F. Parsons, L. Armstrong, and R. E. Greaves. A subscription of £1 Is for the tournament was made by the president, who was accorded a vote of thanks. It was agreed to increase the entry fee for the men’s singles section from Is 6d to 2s.
Mr A. S. Stanley gave notice of motion that the rule for the levying or clubs be amended to provide for levying on a per caput basis instead of on a flat rate. This will be considered at a special general meeting on December 8.
