THE ASHBURTON CLUB. BOOT’S GOOD HALF-MILE. The Ashburton Athletic Club held its second meeting of the season on the Domain Oval last evening, several athletes from Christchurch and Timaru competing. There was also a good number of local competitors, which, together with favourable weather conditions and a satisfactory attendance, made the meeting a successful one. The outstanding performance of the evening was that of V. P. Boot in the 880 yards handicap, which he won comfortably in Imin. 55 2-ssecs., only 1 3-ssecs. outside the New Zealand record of lmin 53 4-ssec—a fine time in view of the slow track.
