IMPROVED POSITION.

APPRENTICESHIPS IN TRADES. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 23. “The apprenticeship position in New Zealand has improved greatly,” declared the Minister, of Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) when intervieweded to-day. Information was now being obtained throughout the Dominion as to the total of ordinary apprentices in various trades, and when these returns were completed they expected to show /that the present year will prove a record. In fact the figures at present indicate the number of ordinary contracts entered into for the past eight months to be approximately the same as the number of apprentices taken on in a normal year. Referring to legislation last session dealing with young men, who missed opportunities during the depression, Mr Armstrong said to date 363 special contracts had been entered into, while a large number of other cases were under investigation.
