As bells tolled and flags drooped at half-mast at Darmstadt, Princess Louis of Hesse, the young bride, led the Royal mourners—among whom were Lord Louis Mountbatten, in a viceadmiral's uniform, representing their Majesties, and the Marchioness of Milford-Haven, .representing Queen Mary—at the funeral of members ot the Prince of Hesse’s family who were killed in the air disaster at Ostend last Wednesday. Sir Auckland and Lady Geddes were present. The Duchess of Kent and other members of the British Royal family, the Kaiser, Herr Hitler, and General Goering sent wreaths. The scene of the funeral was Rosehill Park. Six coffins draped with the lion-emblazoned banners of the Hesse family, containing the bodies of the victims, also of the Grand Duke George Donatus, who died six weeks ago, were placed in a common grave overshadowed by Lebanon cedars. The Army and Navy were represented. Aeroplanes circled overhead. Thousands of people clad in black, and carrying home-made wreaths, lined the streets. A purple-draped altar surmounted by two lighted candles stood at the head of the grave. The service was in accordance with Lutheran rites.
