ARRESTED AS SPIES
SIX ALLEGEDLY CONFESS. “ACHILLES HEEL” OF FRANCE. AN UNFORTIFIED CENTRE. (United Pres 9 Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 1.0.30 a.m.) PARIS, November 23. Six alleged spies have been arrested in the village of Huningue, on the Franco-German frontier. It is alleged that they confessed that they handed to agents at Freiburg information about the strength and disposition of troops on the French frontier. Huninguq is .regarded as the Achilles Heel of the Maginot Line, as it is unfortified under the treaty made after the Franco-Prussian War, which was not annulled by the Treaty of Versailles. DENOUNCED AFTER ARREST. LONDON, Nov. 22. Tho Strasbourg correspondent of “The Telegraph” states that the Alsace police arrested six men, all of whom allegedly confessed espionage on behalf of Germany. Those arrested include two members of De La Rocque’s French Social Party. De La Rocque publicly denounced them after their arrest. One confessed that they were seeking information from local troops regarding the strength of the Alsatian defences and selling it to Germany.
