Bishop Whyte, of Dunedin, was a passenger for the south by the express train this morning. *
Mr D. A. Lawson, who has been in charge of the grain department of the Ashburton branch of the National Mortgage and Agency Company for several years, has been advised of his transfer to Christchurch in a similar capacity, on promotion.
Miss E. J. Watt (matron of the Ashburton Public Hospital) will go to Wellington to-morrow and will attend the New Zealand Matrons’ conference on Thursday. As one of the delegates from Canterbury she will attend the Dominion conference of registered nurses on the two days following.
Miss B. Higlrt (Matron of the Malvern Home, Ashburton) has been appointed an examiner at the State examinations for nurses at Timaru, and will go south to-morrow. Sister V. E. Dearsley, who has been appointed examiner at Oamaru, will go south on Wednesday of next week.
The Rev. C. L. Sparrow, vicar of Lincoln, and Mrs Sparrow, who have been touring Great Britain, Palestine, and Syria, arrived in Sydney by the Orcades on November 18, and after a few days there will leave for New Zealand by the Awatea, arriving next Friday. Mr Sparrow is a former vicar of Ashburton, and of Methven.
Mr A. T. Saunders has left for Auckland, where he will attend the annual communication of the Masonic Grand Lodge under the New Zealand Constitution, at which the main item of procedure will be the re-installation of the Governor-General (Viscount o?alway) as Grand Master. Accompanied by Mrs Saunders Mr Saunders will make a motor trip through the North Island.
