MOTOR-CYCLING.
ASHBURTON HILL CLIMB. The Ashburton Alotor-Cycle Club held its annual grass hill climb on the property of Air W. Glasson, “Lincoln Hills,” Cavendish, yesterday. Entries were not so numerous for the event as last year, but competition was keen and some excellent times were put up. A. H. Rogers rode most consistently, clocking 11 l-ssec on four occasions. He established fastest time of the day, and a record for the hill in winning the club championship. Results were as follow: 350 c.c.—W. AY. Johnson, 12 l-ssec, 1; H. Cork, 19 2-ssec, 2. Club Championship—A. H. Rogers, 11 l-ssec, 1; H. C. L. Browning, 11 4-5 sec, 2; W. AY. Johnson, 12 2-ssoc, 3; J. E. Smith, 13 3-sscc, 4. Unlimited Handicap—J. E. Smith (2see), 11 sec, 1; A. H. Rogers (scr), 11 l-osoc, 2, If. C. L. Browning (3-ssec) and AA’. AY. Johnson (1 l-ssee), 11 2-5 see (equal) 3. The new electrical timing device worked very satisfactorily.
