SPORTS AT RAKAIA. FAST TIMES RECORDED. The Rakaia Athletic and Cycling Club’s annual sports meeting, held in the Rakaia Domain on Saturday, attracted a large attendance. Large entries were received for all events, which were keenly contested. The president (Mr W. Shelloek) presented the cup to Dunsandel, the winners of the primary schools’ relay race. Although there lxad been some criticism of the holding of the junior and women’s amateur athletic championships so early in the season, the standard at the meeting which was held on Saturday was- more than satisfactory. The outstanding performance of the afternoon was that of Miss Betty Forbes (North Otago), who improved on her New Zealand high jump record of 4ft lHin with a wonderful leap of sft 0 3-16 in. She should be a likely candidate for the selection in the Empire Games team. AMERICAN COACH FOR WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, November 20. The American athlete, Alfred Fitch, who has been engaged as coach by the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, is due at Auckland next Friday 7 by the Monterey 7. Arrangements have been made for him to < appear at the Laycold Cup meeting at Petone on Saturday, and at the Lower Hutt Club’s evening meeting the following Monday. V. P. BOOT DISPLAYS FORM. CHRISTCHURCH, November 20. V. P. Boot, the Olympic representative and candidate for Empire honours at Sydney, opened the new season with a brilliant mile run to-day Not at any stage extended and finishing full of gunning, he beat C.
