BRIGHT SUNSHINE AFTER RAIN. There was bright sunshine in Ashburton to-day, following the heavy rain yesterday. The sky in the morning was almost cloudless and the temperature was warm and pleasant. There was a light north-easterly wind. After 9 o’clock yesterday morning 18 points of rain fell, making a total for the day of 65 points. The total for the month to date is 144 points. The maximum temperature! yesterday was 62.5 degrees and the inside minimum last night 37.8 degrees. The barometer showed a further rise at. 9 o’clock this morning, standing at 29.73 inches, compared with 29.49“ inches yesterday morning. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: The last of the series of depressions recently reported and one of slight intensity is crossing the South Island this morning. An anti-cyclone is advancing across the north Tasman Sea, but a fresh though shallow depression is developing over Eastern Australia. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows : Light to moderate and variable winds, north-easterlies prevailing on the coast and north-westerlies inland. Weather fine, with cold night but mild day temperatures. Seas slight to moderate.
