THE WEATHER.
UNSETTLED CONDITIONS TO-DAY.
The weather in Ashburton to-day was unsettled. Rain fell fairly heavily early in the morning, but ceased later, except for occasional showers. The sky remained overcast with a wind from the south-east. The temperature was moderate. The rainfall up to 10 o’clock this morning was-27 points, making a total of 81 points so far this week and 460 points for the month to date. The maximum temperature yesterday was only -56.7 degrees. The inside minimum temperature lias shown scarcely any variation for the last three nights, being 48.9 degrees last night and 48.8 degrees on the two preceding nights. Barometric pressure stood at 29.84 inches at 9 o’clock this morning, compared with 29.88 inches yesterday m-orning.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: Pressure is high to the east of the Dominion and also over the western Tasman 'Sea, hut is rather low over and especially to the west of New Zealand.
The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows:
Light to moderate and variable winds, north-easterlies predominating at first, but a change to southerlies probable by the morning. Weather cloudy to overcast, with mist or fog in places, intermittent showers or misty rain still probable. Temperatures mild. Seas slight to moderate.
